Homeostasis Flashcards
Homeostasis
process where organisms maintain a relatively stable internal environment
Feedback Loop
interaction between receptor, control center and effector or a circular process where a system’s output serves as input to its own system
Positive Feedback Loop
feedback loop that causes a system to change further in the same direction
Negative Feedback Loop
feedback loop where a system responds to a change by returning to its original state, or by decreasing the rate at which the change is occurring.
Hormone
secretion of an endocrine gland transmitted by the blood to the tissue which it has a specific effect on
Effector
Part of a feedback loop that carries out the response, such as muscles and organs
Stimulus
signal that an organism responds to such as something that causes an imbalance in an internal condition
Response
a reaction to a stimulus
Receptor
part of a feedback loop that receives information about changes in the organism’s environment.
