Q

How did the Nazis gain power

A

The Nazis took advantage of the rocky political system as many other parties in charge abused the emergency powers.

In July 1932 the Nazis won 230 seats in reichstag making them the largest party.
Hindenburg didn’t fully trust Hitler so made Von papen chancellor. Papen was later replaced by Von Schleicer as he abused emergency powers. Papen didn’t like this so worked with Hitler to make him chancellor. Papen did this as he thought he could use Hitler as his puppet and he would pull the strings for the country to operate. This didn’t work as Hitler took total control

A

A night in which Hitler ordered the SS to kill the SA leaders and old political opponents. Hitler did this as he needed support from the German army. He also didn’t like that Ernst Rohm was becoming too powerful and was also gay which was against the Nazi ideologies. This event killed 200 people and allowed the unification of the army and the SS.
