Where those in power have total and absolute control over its citizens.
Examples of what happens in a police state
Citizens are executed
Citizens live in fear
Terror used to ensure people show loyalty
Citizens can be jailed without a fair trial
Mass arrests on those seen as enemies of the state
Citizens are spied on.

Took responsibility for police, security, intelligence and enforcing nazi race rules

What did the kripo do
Carried out general policing duties in Germany
What did the gestapo do and what law did they have on their side to do this?
They took responsibility for hunting down Nazi opposition.
Gestapo law 1936- Gestapo had power to do anything they wanted e.g imprison people without trial
What did the SD do? And who were they led by?
The SD were the intelligence arm, they monitored the security of the reich. They were led by Reinhard Heydrich.
What were the special people’s courts?
Nazis took control of the judicial system in Germany. They called it the special people’s courts.
Had Nazi only judges, No juries and no right to/ no defence lawyer.

The SS-TV where a branch of the SS that ran the concentration camp.
