Jewish shops were identified with a yellow star.
In 1934 what was forbidden from Jews?
They were forbidden to take part in legal and pharmaceutical exams.
In 1935 what did the Nuremberg laws mean?
No Jew could be a citizen of the Reich; Jews could not vote and they could not be appointed to public office.
What became forbidden between Jews and Germans?
Marriage.
What happened in 1936-7 and Jewish jobs?
They were barred from certain high-end professions such as veterinary science, chartered accountancy, teaching, dentistry and nursing.
In 1938 Hitler passed a decree which insisted what?
All Jewish wealth which exceeded 5000 marks had to be registered. All Jewish enterprises had to be registered and specially trade marked.
What happened to Jew’s names?
All male Jews had to add Isaac to the name and Sara to every female.
How were passports only valid?
If they had the letter J stamped on them.
What happened to Jewish doctors?
Their qualifications were cancelled.
What did Jews have to apply to the police to get?
Special identity cards.
What happened on 9th November 1938?
Kristallnacht.
Why did Kristallnacht happen?
For the revenge for the assassination of a Nazi diplomat who was killed by a Jew.
What happened on Kristallnacht?
SS organised attacks on Jewish property throughout Germany. Shops, homes ad synagogues were all destroyed.
How much did Jews have to pay for Kristallnacht?
1 billion marks and 30 000 Jews were put into concentration camps until the fine was paid.
What happened to Jewish shops and businesses?
They were compulsorily sold, Jews were eliminated from the economy.
What did Jews have to hand over in 1939?
Gold, silver and jewels.
What time were Jews allowed out till?
8pm in the winter, 9pm in the summer.
What else weren’t Jews allowed to use?
Radios.
From November 1939 what did Jews have to wear?
The star of David as a means of identification.
Why was it difficult for Jews to communicate?
Their phone lines were cut.
Why was there an increase in Jews?
After the conquest of Poland.
By 1940 what was happening to all Jews?
They were being deported from German soil to be resettled and used as slave labour.
By 1941 what was the decision?
To eliminate the entire race.
What were concentration camps equipped with?
Gas chambers and incinerators.
How many Jews came under Hitler’s control after he conquered Poland?
3 million.
Where were Jews herded?
Into ghettos in eastern Poland, the largest in Warsaw.
What happened to the Jews in these ghettos?
Many died form hunger, cold or disease.
What was the death toll in Warsaw?
500,000.
When was the invasion of Russia?
1941.
What happened during this invasion?
Special SS groups were sent into Russia to murder all the Jews they could find.
