-October 29, 1929
-Was the day the stock market crashed, causing an economic crisis. Farmer’s went bankrupt and couldn’t pay back their loans. People were losing jobs
Describe Canadian Prairies in the 20s
Wheat lost value, crops were growing in dry conditions, and getting eaten by grasshoppers
How did the Government respond to the economic crisis
- The Federal government told the provincial government that it was their problem, but the provincial government didn’t have any money to put into helping the economy
Describe the “On - To - Ottawa Trek”
Single, male relief workers took a train from B.C to Ottawa because they were fed up with the government. They were stopped in Regina and the government only allowed 1 of these men to voice their opinion. Once the government dismissed their ideas and concerns, these men started a riot in Regina.
