American Revolution
Cutting the ties with Britain
Before War of Independence Patriots were called Rebels
Rebels were bad to loyalists to pressure them to become Patriots
Loyalists leave
Got hung, tar and feathered, homes taken away
Loyalists wanted to remain loyal to Britain: Royal Navy and Army to protect them, market to send excess farms good to, many farmers didn’t care who ruled them.
Loyalists went to Canada or back to Britain

Loyalists wanted Canada to be similar to the places they moved from
Loyalists asked Quebec to become more British with laws and customs but this could endanger French laws, customs, language, religion

Gov. splits Canada into upper(Ontario) (mostly English Protestant settlers) and lower(Quebec) (mostly French Catholic settlers)
They did this because they needed to please the 140000 French speakers and the 30000 English speakers

Canada won the War of 1812
Britain had shut down trade between France and the U.S. the U.S thought that BNA would join them but instead the colonists fought back. They didn’t want to be Americans because of the bad stuff done to them during the Loyalist Migration.
