When was the Royal Proclamation and what was it trying to do?

A

In 1763 and was an attempt to keep peace between First Nations, British and French. It was a statement of law and policy that was actually an attempt to assimilate Canadiens to become more British. It also established a proclamation line separating colonies and “Indian territory”. No settlement could occur until First Nations had come to an agreement about these lands.

A

In the 1770s Britain could see conflict rising again so they returned some of the rights that the Royal Proclamation had taken away.
