Fighting sometimes broke out between Canadien and English-speaking voters during elections for assembly. The most serious incident was in 1832 British soldiers shot three Canadiens
Complaints were rejected by Britain and this caused several rebellions to break out against British military. The battles were squashed in 1837 and leaders of rebellious battles fled to US or punished

Was based on recommendations from the Durham report it was used to pressure the Canadians to assimilate. It was an act of oppression because it was an unjust use of power.
