Beaver felt hats became the new fashion and kept explorers coming to Canada in search of beaver pelts and helped establish foundation of the fur trade.
What relationship did the British and First Nations have?
Britain wanted land and thought First Nations were in the way.
What relationship did French and First Nations have?
French created alliances with First Nations to increase their fur supply.
What were the direct impacts on the First Nations??
Good- trading for metal goods made life easier
Not good- new diseases, wars, guns, loss of land, loss of spiritual identity and culture.
Also the fur trade grew the British and French moved inland in search of fur and fish. More land = more power and wealth for Mother country.

Furs and fish brought great wealth to merchants and Mother countries for both French and British.

The economy of the fur trade brought in the interests of First Nations, British and French together sometimes in conflict and harmony.

It was the economic engine of New France and created economic competition between the French and British.
