United Empire Loyalists
People who opposed the rebellion.

People who supported the rebellion. Patriotic to their country (United states)
What was tarring and feathering. Why might it happen to someone.
When you got hot tar and a sack of feathers dumped on your head. It happened to loyalists to pressure them to become Patriots
Why did Americans rebel against Britain
Britain was in debt from 7 years war and they were going to station troops on the 13 colonies but charge for them. People refused to pay. Said No Taxation Without Representations
How did the Loyalist migration impact the Canadiens
It greatly increase the number of British people in Quebec.
Loyalists were farmers and their settlements took more land away from the First Nations
British wanted British laws and customs in Quebec and the Canadians were afraid they would lose their way of life
How did the loyalist migration impact the first Nations
Before the loyalists came Britain had treaties of peace and friendship but once the loyalists came the British took the land away from the first nations, said they weren’t on Indian territory so they had to leave their hunting and fishing grounds.
What did the government receive from the loyalist
Petitions- asking to allow British laws and customs instead of French ones, St. John river colonists asked for Britain to be their own colony
How did the government respond to these concerns
Divided Quebec into upper and lower Canada.
Britain owed something to Loyalists because they fought for Britain in the war, but wanted to secure the French in Canada
Why did the Americans invade British North America to trigger the war of 1812
Napoleonic wars in Europe were happening
Britain shut down trade between French and US it blocked American ships from landing in French ports. British Navy also began boarding American ships looking for British deserters. in retaliation the US declared war on the nearest part of British territory, British North America now known as Canada
What position did the Canadiens take in regard to the war of 1812
Catholic Church opposed it and the republican government. During the war of 1812 it opposed the French republic and American republic but encouraged Canadians to fight for Britain and the monarchy

He began to organize First Nations to support the British. British gave them guns. They were allies not loyal, First Nations didn’t trust white men.

Everyone in Canada came together to fight Americans. Created a bond.

How did the settlers in upper Canada feel about the war of 1812?
Upper Canadians expressed strong support for Britain and strong opposition for American plans. Some American born settlers came for land for farming and some of them supported US invasions. Hoping the war would end quickly lots came as immigrants. The ones that sided with Americans, after the war were deported from Canada
