according to Catholic teachings, it was a place where souls went before they went to heaven
Martin Luther
German priest and leader of the Protestant Reformation, wrote the Ninety-Five Theses and nailed them to the door of the Wittenberg church. Criticized the Catholic Church.
Ninety-Five Theses
A list of 95 complaints written by Martin Luther criticizing the Catholic Church. Luther thought that people could interpret the Bible for themselves. Catholics thought only the clergy could interpret the Bible.

belief that God knew if you were going to heaven or hell before you were born

English reformer who translated the Bible into English and was burned at the stake

Catholic missionaries, like the famous Francis Xavier, traveled throughout the world and set up missions and worked to convert new people to the Catholic Church.
