  • The staggered rhythm emphasises the short, breathless phrases
  • Use of enjambement in the last stanza in order to make the pace faster and breathless represents the fast passing of time as humans do not stop to appreciate.
  • Rhythm fluctuates between iambic and dactylic, often with pair of spondees to emphasise short phrase (shows how she is beaten down)

Anon – there is a sense of control of women’s stories (throughout history or myth). There is also a control of women’s roles in the eyes of society. Who has the power? Women here are presented as the other – the side character.
Long queen – both are women in history. One is about weakening, the other about the longevity of a woman.
Beautiful – both look at women in history. Both are offensive – one shows how women are only remembered for their beauty, the other shows how women are presented as passive and are largely forgotten.
Tall and loud – all three-present suffering. But tall and loud shows the women fighting against their suffering

  • She sleeps – next sequence is like a nightmare. Ironic since it is reality and shows our detachment from our mistakes
  • Woman is nameless – is she all women or is it showing how she is neglected in society?
  • Title Links to ‘Her story’ -1960s feminist perspective emphasizing women’s role and point of view in society that has been long since overlooked.
