Histology: connective tissue Flashcards
Name 3 things that undifferentiated mesenchymal cells can differentiate into
undifferentiated mesenchymal cells can differentiate into
1) Osteoblasts (bone)
2) Chondroblast (cartilage)
3) Fibroblast (connective tissue)
What are the two types of fibrous connective tissues?
-loose and dense
What are the two types of fats?
- White, a large single fat globule in each cell, appears white in slides
- Brown, found in shoulders and in new born babies, cells contain many gobules of fat
What are the two types of hard connective tissue?
Bone and Cartilage
Name the different types of collagen
I - Skin, bone, teeth, capsules of organs II - Cartilage III - Liver, Kidney, spleen, arteries, uretus IV - Basement membrane V - Placenta VI VII VIII IX X XI XII
What in the general role of epithelial tissue cells
epithelial tissue cells have roles in protection, absorption, secretion - including enzymes, hormones etc
What in the general role of supporting tissues?
supporting tissues have roles in soft and hard skeletal tissues, eg bone, cartilage, collagen, elastic, blood and immuno-competent cells
What in the general role of muscle cells?
muscle cells have roles in contraction and locomotion
What in the general role of nerve cells?
nerve cells have a role in communication
What in the general role of germ cells?
Reproductive functions
How often are simple epithelia replaced?
Slowly
What is the structure of collagen?
individual collagen fibrils consist of overlapping (overlapping gives rises to characteristic banding of collagen fibrils) linear strands of tropo-collagen. Tropo collagen molecules are secreted from cells and assembled into fibrils extra-cellularly.
Each tropocollagen subunit consists of 3 linear polypeptide chain would together in an alpha helix. (usually two similar chains and one dissimilar)
