Histo Vascular Flashcards
Large elastic artery - notice the huge tunica media with smooth muscles
What are these wavy structures in the large elastic artery
These are elastic lamellae produced by fibroblast and smooth muscle cells, both are found in the tunica media of the large elastic artery
Know where the internal and external elastic membrane is
Internal is towards the tunica intima (up) and external is towards the tunica adventitia
Aorta, mallory stain
Medium artery, mallory stain - notice the thin layer of tunica media.
Also note that we can clearly differentiate between all three layers
What does the single wavy line in the attached slide signifiy
Beginning of the tunica intima
What does tunica adventitia has in medium artery
It has an abundant collagen and elastin
Medium vein - notice al three layers are also visible here
Tunica adventitia has mostly collagen
This is large vein. One of the unusual things about large vein is that it has smooth muscles in tunica media and tunica adventitia that can be seen in the slide.
The smooth muscles appear to be arranged in different planes, one of them is coming out of the plane whereas in the tunica media they are parallel to the plain
What is the function of pericytes as illustrated in the video for capillaries
They are important in angiogenesis
How do you identify lymphatics
They have venule like structures with few smooth muscles, they have valves and are missing RBCs
What does valves have
They have intima and connective tissue, there are no smooth muscles hence there will be no tunica media, there is only tunica intima
