Q

What are the 2 main types of Adult CT?

What are the subtypes for each one?

A

Fibrous CT:

Loose (Areolar)

Dense Regular- tendons connecting skeletal muscle to bone

Dense Irregular- fibers are deposited in a random pattern, Ex. Dermis of the skin

Special CT:

Adipose

Bone

Cartilage

Hematopoietic

Q

What are the 6 cells of connective tissues and what are each of their functions?

A

Fibroblasts- produce collagens, proteoglycans, and glycoproteins

Mesenchymal cells- connective tisseu stem cells

Adipocytes- store and release fats

Chondrocytes- produce and maintain cartilage components

Osteoblasts- produce bone

Hematopoietic stem cells- produce rbcs and immune cells (Macrophages, mast cells, lymphocytes, plasma cells)

Q

What is deficient is patients suffering from scurvy? Why is this important?

A

Vitamin C deficiency, which is a co-factor in cross-linking collagen fibers, therefore weakening the connective tissue

Q

What is defective in patients suffering from Marfan’s Syndrome?

A

Elastin is weakened due to a mutation in Fibrillin-I gene, which is a component of Elastin Fibers

Patients tend to be tall with long arms/legs

17
Q

What do Plasma cells different from?

What is their function?

A

B-lymphocytes

Function is to produce antibodies
