What does the thomas test test for
Dysfunctional hip flexors (iliopsoas)
Define how to perform a Hip flexor SD MET
Patient is LR with affected side up
Patient’s leg is lifted and is instructed to push anteriorly against doc’s hand to move into ease of motion
Define how to do a hamstring hypertonicity SD
Used for an extension SD
Doc stabilizes contralateral ASIS and moves affected leg upwards while patient presses downwards into ease of motion
Define how to do a MET gluteus hypertonicity
Patient is LR with affected side up
Doc stabilizes ipsilateral PSIS while patient pushes foot downward against physician’s thigh
Define how to do a Hip external Rotation SD MET
Patient supine with hip and knee flexed to 90 degrees
Patient is instructed to externally rotate hip against physician’s counterforce
Define how to perform a Hip internal rotation SD MET
Same as external rotation SD, just have patient internally rotate hip against doc’s counter force
