Hip Mobilizations Flashcards

1
Q

how do we perform hip distraction?

A

put the hip in OPP

grip around the malleoli and pull back with your body weight

can use the gait belt around your waist to help with grade 4-5

Q

how do we perform inferior glides?

A

with the treatment leg knee bent and opposite leg straight

grip the proximal anterior thigh and rest their knee on your shoulder

pull straight back towards you

can also “scoop” up and back with ulnar part of hands along the inguinal ligament

can use the belt around your waist and their thigh

9
Q

how do we perform anterior glides?

A

prone

bend and ER the treatment leg over the opposite leg (essential FAbER)

put force through the posterior proximal femur at the gluteal fold in the plane of the acetabulum (pressure down and out)

OR been the knee and lift them into extension while applying a force straight down just below the gluteal fold

can use one or two hands

can put a pillow under the leg and/or tummy

11
Q

how do we perform medial glides?

A

supine

support the pts flexed knee

stabilize just below the greater trochanter (lateral proximal femur) and apply a force inward

can also turn them into ER while applying this force

OR

sidelying

hold the limb in neutral and support the knee medially

apply a force slightly above the greater trochanter and push straight down

13
Q

how do we perform posterior glides?

A

supine

cross the treatment leg onto the opposite knee

block the pelvis at the ischium

put force through the long axis of the femur (posterior and lateral directed force)

can add more flexion and adduction

Q

how do we perform lateral glides?

A

supine

treatment leg bent over you, other leg straight

easier with belt around you and their thigh

place mobilizing hand on the medial thigh and pull straight out to the side

belt around your glutes and in line with their pelvis, lean your body weight back to get a mechanical advantage

OR using the lateral force, flex the hip more with one hand just above the greater trochanter to stabilize and the other hand on the medial thigh
