Hip, Knee, Ankle Flashcards
Inversion stress test that examines the resistance of the ankle ligament to maximal inversion stress.
- With a patient short sitting, the ankle is gradually stressed by exertion of constant pressure over the lateral aspect of the foot and ankle, while counter pressure is applied over the inner aspect of the lower leg until maximal inversion is reached.
- *To assess calcaneofibular ligament integrity
Talar tilt test
A fracture that locks the subtalar joint in inversion when it heals in a varus position, creating a rigid transverse tarsal joint
Calcaneus fracture
Rupture that results in planovalgus or flat foot
Posterior tibialis tendon
Ligaments responsible for maintaining stability of the distal tibiofibular articulation
Syndesmosis
Bone that has no muscle attachment origin or insertion and has a tenuous blood supply
Talus
Where does the tibial nerve run?
It passes behind the medial malleolus
Test were patient is lying prone and therapist squeezes the calf muscle, specifically the gastrocnemius-soleus complex. This should cause a contraction of the Achilles tendon, resulting in plantar flexion.
A positive for this test is when there is no movement of the ankle into plantar flexion meaning there is an Achilles tendon tear/rupture.
Thompson Test
Test used to identify a meniscal injury. Patient is supine knee at 90or short sitting with knee flexed to 90 and therapist rotates tibia medially and laterally.
Stein man test
*Postive test is when pt has medial pain during lateral rotation and lateral pain during medial rotation
