Hip complaint Flashcards
Hip flexion (ROM and associated innervation)
90
Iliopsoas muscle.
Femoral nerve (L2-4)
Ventral rami of lumbars (L1-2)
Hip Extension (ROM and associated innervation)
15-30
Gluteus maximus
Inferior gluteal nerve ( L5, S1, S2)
Hip abduction (ROM and associated innervation)
45-50
Gluteus medius, gluteus maximus
Superior gluteal n (L5, S1)
Hip adduction (ROM and associated innervation)
20-30 adductor longus muscle Obturator nerve (L2-4)
Internal rotation hip
30-40
External hip rotation (ROM and associated muscles)
Sartorius, gluteus maximus
40-60
Labral Loading
Flex patient’s knee and hip to 90, load into femur towards the innominate.
+ Test= pain
Indicates: Labral or cartilaginous pathology
Labral Distraction
Distract patient’s femur away from innominate
+ test= improvement of pain
Indicates: labral or cartilaginous pathology
Scour
Flex and externally rotate patient’s hip. Load into socket and articulate through annular range of motion.
+ test= pain
Indicates: labral or articular cartilage pathology
Apprehension: FABER 1
Pt hip is flexed, abducted and externally rotated. Induce further external rotation by applying posterior force at the knee.
+ test= anterior subluxation of hip or pain
Indicates: Labral pathology.
Jump Sign
Pt seated. Pressure is applied to greater trochanter.
+ test= pt withdraws or jumps with pressure
Indicates: trochanteric bursitis
Patrick’: FABER 2
Pt hip is flexed, abducted, and externally rotated. Physician braces contralateral ASIS, patient externally rotes/abducts against resistance.
+ test= pain or weakness
Indicates: Gluteus medius pathology
Patrick’s: FABER 3
Pts hip is flexed, abducted, externally rotated. Physician braces contralateral ASIS. Pt Interally rotates/adducts against resistance.
+ test= anterior or medial groin/weakness
Indicates: iliopsoas insufficiency or pathology
Thomas test
Pt supine and pulls knees to chest. One leg is lowered to the table to test flexibility of the hip flexors.
+ Test= inability to fully extend, or extended leg raises off the table.
Indicates: Hip flexors contraction
