Hill's criteria Flashcards
Strength of association
The stronger the association, the stronger the evidence is for cause.
Consistency
Studies done in different circumstances and different ways with different people and different times should have the same results.
Specificity
The more specific the relationship, the more likely the cause.
Temporality
effect has to occur after the cause
Dose response relationship
more exposure, more effect.
Plausibility
The association agrees with the currently accepted understanding of biological processes.
Coherence
Similar to plausibility, cause and effect doesn’t conflict with existing knowledge of science.
Experiment
Certain health conditions can be changed through experimental interventions done on purpose.
