evan's postulate Flashcards
1
The disease must be significantly more common in those who have been exposed to risk factors than those who were not.
2
The ones who have the disease were possibly exposed to risk factors more frequently.
3
In prospective studies (studies that watch for outcomes) researchers should expect the population who were exposed to the risk factor to have a higher rate of incidence than the population that was not.
4
People will get the disease after being exposed to risk factors, the incubation period of the infected will vary from normal to earlier or much later than the normal incubation period.
5
The group that was exposed to the risk factors should have a wide range of reactions. From extremely serious reactions to minor or no reactions.
6
When people encounter the risk factors, ones who didn’t react to it before should now show a big one, and those who had some reactions to it should experience even more reaction. Those who were not exposed to the risk factor at all should show no response to the risk factor.
7
In researches, the disease should be more active (appear more often) in those who are exposed to a risk factors than those who were not (controlled group)
8
Reducing or eliminating risk factors should do the same with diseases.
9
Changing or preventing the body from reacting to the disease should kill the disease or make it less severe.
10
All studies done with the disease should not be discordant with existing biological/epidemiological knowledge.
