Q

Why do we not wear leather shoes on Yom Kippur?

A

The Torah tells us that Yom Kippur is a day of affliction (deny ourselves certain comfort and luxuries). Leather were considered a comfort in the past.

First time shoes appear in Torah:
Moshe at the burning bush. HaShem asks Moshe to take off shoes because he is standing on holy ground.
