How do you say days of awe?
Yamim Noraim.
Strictly, it refers to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but it also exends to the 10 day period (Aseret Yemei Teshuvah).
What is Viduy?
Confessional prayers.
Recited on Erev Yom Kippur and Yom Kippur.
Also recited before one departs (death).
- Evoke G-d’s merc, bring atonement upon person
- Reminds us what matters is G-d, fellow men, not material possessions / accomplishments
Why do we not wear leather shoes on Yom Kippur?
The Torah tells us that Yom Kippur is a day of affliction (deny ourselves certain comfort and luxuries). Leather were considered a comfort in the past.
First time shoes appear in Torah:
Moshe at the burning bush. HaShem asks Moshe to take off shoes because he is standing on holy ground.
Besides Yom Kippur, which other day do we not wear leather shoes?
