FLYING TO HI standards

A

120 days quarantine standard
BUT Dogs and cats with 5 days or less quarantine must:
1. Microchip must be implanted
2. Must have been vaccinated for Rabies at least 2x in lifetime, more than 30 days apart. Most recent Rabies must have been administered more than 30 days prior to arrival in HI and not more than the vaccine’s licensed booster interval (must not be expired)
3. OIE Rabies Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization (FAVN) test: Auburn, Kansas State, or DOD food analysis and Diagnostic Laboratory in Texas. Receipt of blood sample must not be more than 36 mo (3 years) prior to arrival and not less than 30 days before date of arrival + Result greater than or equal to 0.5 IU/mL reported directly to division from lab.
4. Completed AQS-279, Original 2 rabies certs in original ink – need vax name, lot or serial number, booster int, vax date and vax lot exp date.
6. Health cert done within 14 days of arrival in HI (dogs and cats)
7. Treatment for ticks within 14 days and product name and date of treatment recorded on health certificate. fipronil treatment within 14 days of arrival
8. Send documents more than 10 days before arrival
9. Birds- 30 day quarantine post arrival +/- additional 15 days
Failure to comply= 120 day quarantine

FLYING TO KONA, KAHULUI OR LIHUE standards

A

Neighbor Island Inspection Permit: Will be issued once received above documents, info and payment, confirmed pet meets all requirements for 5 day or less program and received confirmation from vet that they will meet the pet – need this to board the aircraft

LOCATED IN HI, LEAVING THE STATE, AND ON RETURN FLYING TO HNL standards

A
  1. Dog or cat cannot be in quarantine, Health cert by licensed vet in HI,
  2. Microchip
  3. Vax at least 2x for Rabies, admin at least 30 d apart, no less than 14 d before the dog or cat departs HI. The pet’s most recent Rabies must not be expired when the pet returns to HI
  4. Rabies FAVN – day after received blood must not be less than 14 days before the date of departure from HI
  5. Import form, original rabies vaccine certificates for two most recent rabies vaccines with actual veterinarian’s signature in ink, payment, health cert issued by vet in HI
  6. If animal will be returning to HI more than 14 days after departing the state, then an additional health cert is required before returning to HI. The same HI health cert used for departure may be used for return if the pet will be returning within 13 days of the date the HI health cert was issued
  7. A vet must treat the pet for ticks within 14 days of return to HI

  1. Contact vet hospital before flight to see if they can perform inspection
  2. All required documents must be submitted 30 days ore more before intended date of arrival
  3. The dog or cat must have a successful FAVN Rabies Ab test sample taken in HI with a passing result before departing HI

Vaccines and prohibited species

A

Vaccines- not less than 10 d and not more than the manufacturer’s recommended booster interval before arrival
Dogs: DHPP, leptospirosis, bordetella, corona (optional)
Cats: panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, chlamydia psittaci (pneumonitis) and leukemia (optional)
Prohibited animals: non-domestic dogs, cats and hybrids - wolf, wolf cross, dingo, Bengal, savannah, etc.
Puppy or kittens will be about 6 months of age by the time preps are completed. Puppies and kittens not able to meet all of the requirements will be quarantined for 120 days
Pregnant animals are prohibited from entering
Exempt areas: British Isles, Australia, Guam, New Zealand
