Life cycle (heartworms)
A
Dirifilaria immitis= L1 ingested by mosquito from infected dog> L3 develop in stomach of mosquito> L3 to mouth parts> deposited into dog through bite/ blood sucking> L3 migrates from skin to pulmonary artery> mature to L5 100d post- infection> 6-7 months for maturity and microfilaria to be produced (Dx with antigen test for adult female worm)> L5 to adult migrate to R heart> microfilaria in blood to infect mosquito
Dipetalonema= flea transmitted (motile with hooked tail)

adulticide- Immiticide (melarsomine dihydrochloride) 2 doses 1 month apart, microfilaricides- many options
