Herpesviruses Flashcards
what’s the effect of HSV on host cell?
- Changes in host chromatin
- Changes in cellular membranes : duplication and folding of intracellular membranes, insertion of virus proteins in cell membrane, polykaryocytosis( several nuclei)
what’s HSV entry?
Conjunctiva, finger (herpetic whitlow), other skin sites
Pathogenesis of HSV-1
- Transmission via saliva or cold sores of infected individual
- virus replication in oral mucosa
3, mild febrile illness - vesicle ulcerate
- destruction epithelial cells
- virus enter sensory nerve endings - transfer to dorsal root ganglia
When and where the VZV vaccine was firstly used ?
USA 1995
What does EBV target ?
B-lymphocytes
What does CMV target ?
Salivary glands and kidneys
Effect of CMV on host cell
a’well behaved’ parasite, causing little or no damage to the host unless it infects the fetus or placenta to cause congenital abnormalities or it reactivates following depressed cell-mediated immunity (post-transplant, AIDS) to cause viremia, fever, hepatitis or pneumonia.
Which year was HHV-6 firstly isolated ?
1986
Where does HHV-6 replicate?
T and B cells
What percentage of HHV6&7 are in the saliva
HHV-6 –> 85%
HHV-7–> 75%
