latent in cells of dorsal root ganglia then reactivates and travels along neuronal cell axons
- often activated at older age or weakened immune system

can patients who rec’v the herpes zoster vacc transmit the varicella virus (chickenpox) to susceptible persons

but if the patient develops a rash after vaccination indicating the vacc wasn’t 100% effective, rash should be covered
