What is hereditary haemochromatosis?
A
An autosomal recessive condition in which there is excessive intestinal absorption of iron but with no way to excrete it.

How does hereditary haemochromatosis present?
A
CIRRHOSIS, BRONZE SKIN, DIABETES.
The excess iron is most commonly stored in the liver so can present with cirrhosis.
Also can suffer malaise, joint and bone pain, congestive heart failure, adrenal insufficiency.

How is hereditary haemochromatosis managed?
A
Phlebotomy to remove iron before causes damage.
