Hepatic system Flashcards
What are the 4 lobes of the liver
Right, left, quadrate and cuadate
What is the liver lobule
The most basic unit of a liver
What are hepatocytes
A specialised epithelial of the liver. It is used in protein synthesis and protein storage
What three components make up the portal triad
Hepatic portal vein, artery and bile duct
What is the hepatic portal vein
A blood vessel coming from the digestive tract ( intestines, gallbladder, pancreas) and the spleen.
What’s the difference between the hepatic portal vein and the hepatic vein.
Hepatic portal vein transports blood from the digestive tract and spleen to the liver and the portal vein transports blood from the liver to the vena cava.
What two vessels transport blood to the liver
Hepatic portal vein and the hepatic artery
What % of blood is supplied to the liver by the hepatic portal vein
75%
What % of blood is supplied to the liver by the hepatic artery
25%
What is the hepatic artery
A blood vessel that transports oxygenated blood to the liver from the aorta
What is the sinusoid
sinusoids are gaps in the lobule replacing the capillaries and veins. Blood enter the sinusoids from the HPV and HA and blood flows to the central vein and they’re lined by endothelium tissue.
What are kupffer cells
Phagocytes lining the sinusoids
What direction does bile travel in the sinusoids
From the from the central vein to the bile duct
What direction does blood travel in the sinusoids
From the HPV and HA to the central vei
3 functions of the liver
Breaking down red blood cells, bile production, cholesterol synthesis and store glycogen
