1504: Isabella of Castile dies
Isabella’s will says that Joanna would inherit Castile, Joanna marries Archduke Philip - Castile to be absorbed into HRE. H7 - caught between Phil + Ferd. Possibility of marriage between Phil’s daughter (Eleanor of Austria) + H8. Max also has Ed DLP, so keeps alliance.
1504: Treaty with Hanseatic League
Tried to weaken Hanse’s power, but failed. Had to give favourable trading conditions, e.g. lower taxes, so they wouldn’t support Ed DLP.
1506: Duke Philip is shipwrecked
In England, by storms. Ed DLP returned, but life must be spared. H7 to marry Phil’s sister (Margaret of Austria), H8 to marry daughter (Eleanor of Austria) + Mary (H7’s daughter) to marry C5. But, marriages don’t happen.
1506: Malus Intercursus
Trade with Burgundy is free, but Burgundian merchants still have to pay for their goods. However, doesn’t get implemented. England’s share in the cloth trade stays the same.
1508: League of Cambrai
H7 tried to organise anti - Spain alliance with England at centre, but France signed with Spain instead - isolated England further because they didn’t get an invitation. However, it was an anti - Venice alliance, so England wasn’t threatened.
