Heart dissection Flashcards
Functions (thanks ash)
Supplies blood in upper extremities
Brachiocephalic trunk
Return deoxygenated blood to the heart from head and arms
Superior vena cava
Transfer of deoxygenated blood to the right lung for rexoygenation
Right pulmonary artery
Help the heart deliver oxygen-rich blood in the body
Ascending aorta
Deoxygenated blood from the heart to lungs
Pulmonary trunk
Drain oxygen rich blood from right lung to left atriu
Right pulmonary veins
Receives oxygen poor blood
Right atrium
Supplies blood to right ventricle and right atrium
Right coronary artery
Drain the upper anterior portion of the myocardium of the right ventricle
Anterior cardiac vein
Accepts venous blood and propels to the lungs to be oxygenated
Right ventricle
Provide blood supply to the lateral portion of right ventricle
Marginal artery
Drains part right atrium and right ventricle
Small cardiac vein
Transport of almost all venous blood from the lower extremities back to the right side of the heart for reoxygenation
Inferior vena cava
Send oxygen rich blood to organs and tissues in head and neck
Left common carotid artery
Supplies blood to left arm
Left subclavian artery
Distribute blood in upper extremities via brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid, and left subclavian artery
Aortic arch
Shunt blood away to the lungs during fetal development
Ligamentum arteriosum
Take unoxygenated blood to the left lung for reoxygenation
Left pulmonary artery
Drain oxygen-rich blood from left lung into left atrium of the heart
Left pulmonary veins
Receive oxygen-rich blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle
Left atrium
Supplies blood to the outer side and back of the heart
Circumflex artery
Supplies blood to the left side of the heart muscle
Left coronary artery
Pump oxygenated blood to the body
Left ventricle
Drains majority of deoxygenated blood
Great cardiac vein
Biggest supplier of oxygenated blood to the hearts lower left ventricle
Anterior interventricular artery
Helps pump blood from the ventricles to the rest of the body
Apex
Prevention of blood flow across the interatrial septum
Fossa ovalis
Prevents blood backflow from the right ventricle to the right atrium
Right atrioventricular valve
Anchors the valve, maintain the position and tension on the valve leaflets at the end of systole
Chordae tedineae
Main vessel where oxygen-rich blood travels from the heart to the rest of the body (delivers nutrients and hormones_
Aorta
Allow blood to be pumped towards arteries (prevents backflow)
Pulmonary semilunar valve
Opens and closes to ensure correct blood flow
Left atrioventricular valve (bicuspid valve)
Makes blood flow in one direction (left ventricle to aorta)
Aortic semilunar valve
Separates the ventricles and allow proper blood flow through the heart
Interventricular septum
Responsible for contractile function of the cardiac pump
Myocardium
Contains blood vessels and nourishes the heart
Epicardium
