heart diseases Flashcards
Heart diseases discussed in the book
Hypertrophy cardiomyopathy - assymetric septal hypertrophy
Dilated cardiomyopathy
Myocarditis - Detected by MRI
Ischemic heart disease - all the evaluations of CAD from cardio
valvular disease, by Echo 1st line. CT can detect calcifications, MRI can measure flow rate
Pericardial effusion Echo
Pericardial fibrosis/calcification - CT
Cardiac tumors - EchoO, CT, or MRI
Injuries/trauma - Echo, MRI
Ways to estimate CAD
Percutaneous angiography
CT/MRI contrast angiography
Scitigraphy perfusion imaging
MRI delayed contrast imaging can show scar tissue by delayed contrast enhancement/retention.
The tumors of the heart
Myxoma: most common, arises from endocardium/valves. - Can often be visualized by Echo as they are mobile masses.
Rhabdomyoma - from the myocardium, often multifocal.
Metastases: from the kidney, breast, lung, melanoma.
Echo can detect presence of a tumor, but MRI isneeded to asses the infiltration and total tumor size.
