Heart Flashcards
what are the three types of circulatory systems?
pulmonary, systemic and coronary circulation
what is the pulmonary circulation?
the flow of blood from your heart to you lungs and back again
what is the systemic circulation?
supplies nourishment to the tissues of your body
how many chambers do the heart have and name them?
4, left and right atrium, left and right ventricle
what is the heart?
an organ
what is the function of a heart and where is it located?
the heart is located in the center of your chest, slightly left and is the size of your fist. The heart helps pumps blood to your body.
what are the two pumps of the heart?
1- to the lungs to oxygenate the blood
2- goes to the rest of your body
what is the function if a valve?
to stop the blood from flowing backwards and each chamber is separated by a valve.
what are on the right side of the heart?
vena cava, right ventricle, right atrium
what blood is on the right side of the heart?
deoxygenated blood
what are on the left side of the heart?
left ventricle, bicuspid valve, left atrium, pulmonary veins, pulmonary artery and aorta
what blood is on the left side of the heart?
oxygenated
what is the other name for the bicuspid valve?
mitral valve
flow of blood through your heart?
1- deoxygenated blood enter your heart through the vena cava (superior)
2- then it goes through the tricuspid valve and into the right ventricle
3- the blood is then pumped through the pulmonary valve and artery and then it takes to the lungs.
4- from the lungs it then returns oxygenated blood through the pulmonary veins and into the left atrium. The left ventricle and the left atrium is separated by the bicuspid valve.
5- after that it goes into the aortic valve and then into the aorta which then pumps the blood to the rest of your body.
