Family; growing up with family members who take part in physical activities means your aware of the activities from an early age
Peers; seeing friends enjoys sport may make you want to join in also
Role models; we all want to be able to perform like people who are really good at what they do

Media; what we see on tv radio and newspapers eg showing sports may make you want to participate
Fashion; the clothes for some sports are much nicer than others so this can influence us to start a sport and people are more likely to join a sport with nice clothes

Age; different ages of different activities e.g. A 70 year old would be less suited to rugby
Disability; not all activities can be adapted for people with disabilities
Gender; media and fashion may be responsible for gender specific sports
Race; stereotypes of people may push them more towards one sport than another

Availability; not all activities are readily available e.g. Skiing
Access; there may not be a club suitable for the Individual
Location; there may not be facilities in an easily accessible place
Time; the time needs to be suitable and the person must have enough time

Someone in good health may be well motivated to take part in an activity
Short term illnesses like a cold can prevent us from exercise as well as long term illnesses
