Q

What is the role of the cv system in exercise

A

Transport oxygen in the blood to working muscles
Remove waste products
Return oxygen to the lungs for oxygenation

Q

What are the long term effects of exercise on the cv system

A

Cardiac hypertrophy
Increased stroke volume
Lower resting HR
Increased number of capiliaries and red blood cells

Reduced Chance of coronary heart disease
The heart can contracts more forcefully so lowered resting HR
More blood leaves the heart in each beat so more oxygen is delivered
The heart has to beat less times to have the same effect
Recovery rate is increased

Q

What is blood pressure

A

The force of blood pushing against the blood vessel walls as it travels around the body
Systolic is when the heart contracts
Diastolic is then the heart is relaxing

Systolic is higher than diastolic

Q

What is cholesterol

A

Low density lipoprotein is bad cholesterol that causes deposits to build up in the arteries which makes it harder for blood to circulate and can lead to heart disease as well as increased blood pressure
High density lipoprotein is good cholesterol that takes away cholesterol to be broken down
It is caused by too much saturated fat in the body
