What is meant by “health is political “ (3points)
-Some social groups have more of it than others
- is dependent on political intervention
and thus political action
-right to adequate health and wellbeing depends on citizenship
What 2 main factors contribute to unequal distribution of health resources (in terms of private and public health sectors)
- The public sector is under-resourced compared to the private sector.
- 80% Healthcare workers working in public health sector also work in the private sector.
Explain How has rapid urbanization led to unequal distribution of health resources.
Health sectors in urban areas are built to cater for the total urban area population but due to urbanization people migrate and influx to urban areas.this forces urban health facilities to function beyond capacity. This leads to overcrowding and strain to the Healthcare system and lack of resources.
In South Africa, I’d It allowed for the Healthcare system to cater for the people of it’s area only. “No outsiders”
No. It’s unconstitutional to deny anyone basic Healthcare services. Even undocumented immigrants.
