Where males and females mature and develop to allow them to sexually reproduce, commonly in there teenage years.
What is the male reproductive system?
- bladder
- urethra
- seminal vesicle
- prostate gland
- testicles
- epididymis
- vas deferens
- penis
What is the female reproductive system?
- bladder
- urethra
- uterus
- cervix
- ovary
- fallopian tube
- vagina
- rectum
What is the bladder used for?
to store urine and allows urination to be controlled (male and female)
What is the urethra?
It is a tube that carries urine and semen to the outside of the body (male and female)
What is the seminal vesicle?
the two glands that create fluid that gives sperm energy (male)
What is the prostate gland?
to produce the fluid that nourishes and transports sperm (male)
What are testicles?
to create and store sperm and testosterone (male)
What is the epididymis?
a structure that matures sperm and carries it to the vas deferens (male)
What is the penis?
the main sex organ which inserts into the vagina (male)
What is the Vas Deferens?
where it transports mature sperm to the urethra (male)
What is the uterus?
where it accepts fertilised eggs and supports growing baby whilst pregnant (female)
What is the cervix?
when it allows menstruation to flow into vagina and sperm to go to uterus (female)
What is the ovary?
where it produces estrogen and ovum (egg) (female)
What is the falliopian tube?
where it transports egg from ovary to uterus
What is the vagina?
when it receives the penis during sex and where menstruation and baby pass through
What is a rectum?
where it excretes feces out of the body
What is the menstrual cycle?
Where girls and women have a period, meaning it is getting prepared to have a baby. It is every month and where the lining of the uterus is shed.
List the 4 phases in order of the full menstrual cycle
1 menstrual
2 follicular
3 ovulation
4 luteal
What is the menstrual phase?
Where the blood lining of the uterus is shed through the vagina and a tampon or pad is used to collect the blood. (day 1-5)
What is the follicular phase?
When follicule stimulating stimulates the ovaries to produce a mature egg and when the endometrium begins to develop again (day 6-10)
What is the ovulation phase?
when the egg is released into the falliopian tube and travels down to the uterus. if it comes in tact with the penis it could fertilise (day 11-18)
What is the luteal phase?
when the endometrium continues to thicken whilst the egg is waiting for sperm.
If the egg isn’t fertilised by sperm the lining is no longer needed and breaks down (day 19-28)
What is sexual intercourse?
when a man and woman attempt to have a baby by having sex
