Health - Bones Flashcards
What is a adaptation?
When you are involved with physical activity and your body responds to the demands and makes adaptmentations.
What types of adaptations are there?
Acute and chronic
What is acute adaptations?
Acute adaptations are adaptations that happen after a short time and sometimes during exercises
What is chronic adaptations?
Chronic adaptations are adaptations that happen after a long period of time and can only happen if you do a exercise regularly (3-4 times for 6-8 weeks)
What can you experience in acute adaptations?
- increased heart rate to get the oxygen to the muscles
- increased stroke volume to get more oxygen to the muscles
- sweat to cool ourselves down
What can you experience in chronic adaptations?
- muscles will adapt
- muscular strength will get stronger and bigger
- muscular endurance will adapt by storing glycogen
- the cardiovascular system will be more effective at providing oxygenated blood to the muscles
- heart rate gets stronger and doesnt beat as fast
- higher stroke volume is at rest because heart is stronger
How many bones do we have?
206
What is the function of moving?
So we can move and our muscles can contract and shorten from the tendons
What is the function of protection?
When the bones protect the vital organs (an example a skull so it protects the brain from impact)
What is the function of shape?
Different sizes of bones mean there could be abnormalities which affect people’s body shapes
What is the function of support?
So our bones support our muscles, skin, and organs.
What is the function of blood cell protection?
So our bones can carry red and white blood cells
What is the function of muscles?
So we can move when our muscles contract and pull on the tendon
