What does the National Health Service ( NHS) England provide?

A

A commissioner - Provides the link between the DHSC and healthcare providers – national leadership for the
NHS.

Responsible for delivering the NHS Long Term Plan.

Oversees the budget, assessing the local health care needs and plans for improving services and commissions some new services too.

Supports local integrated care systems through integrated regional teams.

What is an integrated care system?

A

Following the passage of the health and social act 2022, there was 42 integrated care systems in England.
ICS’s are partnerships of organisations and can come in forms of gps, hospitals, mental health services.

They work closely to plan and deliver joined up health services.

Part of the ICS is the integrated care board who is responsible for developing a plan to meet the needs of the population health wise, managing the health budget and arranging health services in the area.

A

ICS vary in size and are judged on a range of metrics around themes including quality, access and outcomes.

Poor performers are put “recovery support programme”.

A
