Endoscopy/biopsy
PCR for EBV
combined CT + MRI
What is rx of nasopharyngeal cancer?
1st line radiotherapy
+/- chemo +/- surgery
What is the most common histological type in oropharyngeal ca?
squamous
What is the typical presentation of oropharyngeal cancer?
older pt, smoker sore throat sensation of a Lump referred oltagia local irritation by hot or cold goods
what is rx of oropharyngeal cancer?
surgery
radiotherapy
how do hypo pharyngeal tumours typically present
elderly
lump in the throat
dysphagia for solids then liquids
what is the oropharynx composed of?
base of the tongue, tonsils, soft palate and the walls of the pharynx
What are causes of squamous laryngeal cancer?
Smoking
Alcohol
HPV type 16
Occupational exposure e.g. asbestos
What sex is more commonly affected by laryngeal cancer?
male
What are the sx of laryngeal cancer? what is the most common early sx?
Chronic hoarseness - earliest
Stridor
Dysphagia, odynophagia
Haemoptysis
How do you diagnose laryngeal cancer?
laryngoscopy + biopsy
HPV status
MRI - staging
What is the rx of laryngeal cancer?
radical radiotherapy

total laryngectomy
