why are the facial bones irregular?
every one is a different structure
where is the coronal suture?
running across the skull
where is the sagittal suture?
running down the middle of the skull
where is the lambdoid suture?
a v-shape at the back of the skull
name the 3 cranial cutures
coronal, sagittal and lambdoid
when does the posterior fontanelle close?
2-3 months old
when does the anterior fontanelle close?
2 years old
what bone does the olfactory nerve pass through?
the ethmoid bone
what bone is the foramen magnum found in and what passes through it?
the occipital bone and the spinal cord passes through it
where is the occipital bone?
it spans left to right across the back of the head
where is the sphenoid bone?
a single bone at the front of the head spanning left to right
where is the mastoid process?
behind the ear
where is the cranial base
where the brain sits
why are bones around the eyes further back at the corners?
it is a primitive development and it is to allow vision
what is the zygoma?
the crash impact barrier
where do tumours in the maxilla affect?
things in the orbital area i.e. sight
