(mouth, eyes, nose according to race and sex, age and body build) slight asymmetry
Skull
medium size, round, symmetric
Scalp
(palpate in gentle rotary motion from front to back) symmetric and smooth with bones indistinguishable. No indentations or depressions.
Hair
Smooth, full, symmetrically distributed
Frontal and maxillary sinuses
non tender on palpation
Temporomandibular joint
(open and close, while palpating) No crepitus, popping, pain or tenderness with pressure.
Trigeminal motor (CNV)
(palpate masseter and temporal muscles while clenching jaw) symmetric tone, no deviation of jaw or muscle atrophy
Trigeminal sensory (CNV)
(superficial pain and touch sensation on forehead, cheek and chin) symmetric discrimination of sensation in each location to all stimuli.
Facial nerve (CNVII)
(smile, frown, wrinkle forehead, puff cheeks, raise eyebrows) facial symmetry, no tics, or unusual facial movement.
Finger to nose test
(with closed eyes) movements are rapid, smooth and accurate
