What does ‘use by’ mean?
Food must be eaten by this date.
After this date food may become unsafe and could cause food poisoning.
Generally high risk food which should be stored in a fridge or freezer to prevent the spread of bacteria.
What does ‘best before’ mean?
Food will be at its best until this date.
Generally low risk food that can be stored in a cupboard.
What is the correct temperature for a fridge?
Between 1c and 5c
What is the best temperature for a freezer?
-18*c
Discuss safe food handling and serving.
Minimise handling of food.
Clean as you go.
Minimise the time food is in the danger zone.
Hot food should be served above 63c.
Cold food should be served below 5c.
Food should not be reheated more than once.
Reheat to 70*c for at least 2 minutes.
