HCV lecture 3 pathogenesis Flashcards
what is hepatitis
inflammation of the liver
what is jaundice
yellow discoloration of the skin or eyes. due to hepatocyte dysfunction.
what is chronic hepatits
induction of liver fibrosis can lead to scarring. involves deposition of extracellular matrix molecules like collagen. also involves hepatic stellate cells.
is fibrosis reversible
yes but it can develop into cirrhosis which can lead to live failure and restricted blood flow known as portal hypertension.
what is hepatocellular carcinoma
liver cancer
what does HCV do to lipids
leads to lipid accumulation
how does HCV affect insulin resistance
increases glycogen synthesis and decreases gluconeogenesis. also increases cytokine production.
how does HCV affect lipid metabolism
decreases lipid secretion and fatty acid oxidation. increases lipogenesis.
what is steatosis
infection of fatty liver by HCV
what exact virla proteins affect steatosis
the core and NS5A
what is a major clinical rosk factor of HCC
cirrhosis
in a healthy liver where are hepatocytes usually found
in the G0 phase
what are some molecular requirements for HCC
decrease apoptosis, increase cell cycle, vascularisation and gene expression.whic
which HCV proteins affect p53 levels.
NS5A, core, NS3
which HCV proteins affect TGFb
NS5A and the core
