HCMT not doors but faults Flashcards
Substandard beacon read
one of the beacon readers failed to read the realise beacon, door status can be observed on the pictogram, driver is to:
make an announcement the affected door is not available, observe cameras and operate doors as normal- book TMM
if the affected door is required by wheel chair ramp ASDC OVERRIDE
ASDC beacon read failure (complete failure)
stopping aid will also fail, once stopped the eTis will alert the driver they will need to perform the procedure
1 make an announcement about short delay for doors
2 use the SDU to observe all cars are on the platform lead/rear
3 open the cab door and confirm platform side
4 press ASDC OVERRIDE button on platform side and select the first and last car on the pictogram, accept the selection and check that the green door indications on the HMI are the correct doors
5 press door release for platform side
6 book TMM
when might the stopping aid fail
when the TDN and stopping conditions do not align (or you’ve stopped somewhere you weren’t supposed too)
beacon read failure
screen failure
three categories of faults
electrical
pneumatic
mechanical
what does TMS stand for
train management system
what are the levels of alerts
1 high flashing red and tone
2 medium flashing yellow and tone
3 steady yellow
methods of fault rectification
reset with a button
trip and reset a CB (you get tries)
stable
stable for fault rectification
a hard stable is to be performed with permission at a platform or under protection of home signals and where a level crossing is not activated
Marker Light will extinguish
hard stable is not usual; first press panto lower, and ensure they have lowered if safe to do so, turn and hold stable turret for seven seconds and the train will shutdown without delay
- currently HCMT is prohibited from doing this on the mainline
what are the bypass switches
MR PRESSURE SWITCH
TRACTION INTERLOCK
ZERO SPEED
TRIP
DRIVER SAFETY DEVICE
HCS ISOLATE
MR pressure switch
for rescue scenarios with comeng as SL will open if HCMT MR drops below 600 and comeng operating pressure is 585-725 so it must be bypassed to avoid unwanted EMR brake application
Traction Interlock
aka door loop bypass if FDCL or light extinguished or door faults that’s cannot be rectified
Zero Speed
equipment that is linked to speed eg doors
safety loop not resetting in neutral
stopping aid not functioning properly or at all
Trip
removes the trip device from the SL
Driver Safety Device
vigilance / pilot removed from safety loop.
post trip activation speed restrictions will not function if this is isolated
Get Home mode is a bypass button
it latches in when pressed in the event of a PWM pulse width module failure.
operate this button when prompted by the TMS, you will experience 100% or traction when under 5km/h regardless of position of MC and 50% when above.
in the braking zone only 75% effort is available.
HCS isolate
isolated the high capacity signalling completely
aim of get home mode
to cause a lower power map making traction the lowest / safest setting to get you to the nearest siding available
electrical faults categories
CB, traction or auxiliary power
if a fault develops the driver will get a TMS alert
most systems will self isolate
MCBs
most common, come with a TMS alert, you may attempt to reset twice, if it keeps occurring leave it tripped and book. you cannot access saloon area MCBs these are associated with:
doors
smoke alarms
PI
local panto
brake control
traction control
HVACs
IFD internal fire doors
what are the single point failure MCBS
cab activation - power /badge reader
traction control - master controller
emergency brake loop power supply - emergency brakes apply train must be sandwiched all bogies and park brakes isolated
brake control supply - monitors service brakes releasing, BCU health, 0 speed relay, holding brake release, get home mode, coupling, rescue mode and park brakes
Traction and Auxiliary Power System Faults
protected by the HSBC on that car, systems may fail separately or simultaneously. if simeltaneous it is likely a HSCB tripping on that car caused by a train fault or an overhead fault.
the position of the HSCB can be checked on main status screen high voltage status.
if promoted press TCU ACU reset. if problem keeps occurring just leave it and lodge TMM
emergency brake won’t release
ESB
vigilance
MC
Pilot valve not set
trip
low MR
EB or OPERATOR ENABLE l or Vigilance circuit breaker has tripped
WOLO
80 line specific 55 and rising
70 junction specific 58 and rising
headlights hours of darkness
advise TC
50 between stations/ crossing loops
15 level crossings yards stations
white markers must work
frequent whistle
(hours of daylight 50 through MURL and west richmond tunnel)
whistle failure
re release doors if pass over yellow line
travel cautiously at reduced speed through curves cuttings and crests
not exceed 15 through yards stations or near employees
high beams at level crossings
pneumatic faults
brakes
air suspension
pantos
MR storage
how do you silage a panto
saloon area isolating cock next to U12
dump have auxiliary compressors
pantograph faults
could be electric mechanic or pneumatic
could be HSCBs - if failed in closed position TMS alert, must isolate to protect
MR leak- TMS alert low MR, driver must find leak
brake faults
might get fault tile locked axle
smoke
retardation
snell
passenger report
TMS alert : brake disc over temperature
sticking brakes
sanding
associated MCBs tripping
bogies isolated
max 2 so if 3 or more isolated removed from service
EP braking with 2 isolated and brake manager active it will ask more demand from other bogies should be normal
brake manager inactive the other bogies don’t know brakes a bit less
brake disc over temperature
don’t go over the speed it gives you by 3kms or it will go full service brake
adhere to speed submit TMM
sticking or dragging brakes
level 1 alert ‘stop train fan brakes and asses’
go to main status screen page 2 to observe brake cylinder pressures
move MC to coast
observe brake cylinder screws to below 20kpa
go to max brake and back to coast repeat fanning and observe brake cylinder pressure to see if the sticking brake released if not released isolate
isolating brakes
saloon brake supply B06 door 4
BCM IC one per bogie
BCM brake supply one per car
if individual bogie needs to be isolated has to be done in BCM
must isolate SPB when isolating EP and visa versa
how to isolate park brake
pneumatically saloon B07 door 3
or BCM park brake IC
then manually pull the PBMR device above the respective axle accessed from either side of the train
locked axle
apply and release brakes then power
if it doesn’t clear you must inspect the nomknated axle
if obvious damage do not move train is defective
if second person available observe when rotation, if OK continue if not stop
isolate bogie and park brakes and if it’s on continue if not rain is defective
sanding faults
can’t do anything just book
you’ll get a TMS alert
locked or jammed wheel generic
max 5km/h if it’s not the lead
personnel must examine the line, following trains are stopped or travel at reduced speed until track is deemed safe
if personnel not available TFPC will instruct 15km/h
speed restriction with flat/ isolated air bags
40kmh will be applied by the train if you go over by 3 it will make full service brake application until speed is brought back below 40
what does the air suspension IC do
isolates surge reservoirs from main reservoir for one bogie
by isolating main res what are you removing from that car
panto brake systems sanders tread scrubbers grips air bags and will apply park brakes
how can you locate a MR leak?
main status screen can indicate pressures then you can go find it
MR failure on a TC car
as they do not have park or ED brake it will be totally unbranded car
lose trip
brakes
horn
air suspension
seat control
sanders
what to isolate for MR failure on a TC car
the MR through cock on 2 end and the cock under the coupler cover
trip isolate cock b side door 4
latch the trip in the raised position
trip bypass switch
and trip compressor power CB but only fitters can do this as it is in saloon area
you will declare disabled
main res fault dump
lose brakes air suspension and sanders
operate MR through cocks
isolate B07 and manually release park brake
MR fault Mp car
lose brakes, air suspension, sanders, panto and therefore traction motors that need the 1500 and the APS unit
operate through cocks and isolate park brakes
MR failure dt car
lose brakes, air suspension, sanders,
operate through cocks and isolate park brake
miscellaneous faults
things that cannot be identified by the train eg graffiti windscreen damage saloon walls/window damage
if you find it book it
sticking brakes
if safe reduce speed and bring up status screen brake cylinder pressures
MC to coast
observe pressure under 20kpa
and back to max - fan the brake while
in motion -
if not fixed brakes must be isolated friction and park
if it’s on a TC car only one bogie can be isolated otherwise it’s disabled
locked axle
apply and release brakes then apply power
if it remains faulty stop and investigate look for smoke, flats, cables if you can see damage it’s disabled if you have 2 people one can watch the train drive and if it’s ok you can continue
locked axle
if not lead 5km to nearest siding
TFP may let others through the section at max 15 until it is inspected
what’s in the APS
auxiliary inverter medium voltage box battery box and battery charger
HWWD
safeguards against power quality problems
has a harmonic frequency threshold of 2 seconds
if it happens three times will stay broken
if it’s defective level 1 alert stop at next stop and lower the pantos
TC and DT have
APS
and TC has air compressors
MP and DMP have
HV box- HSCB HWDD
VVVF
brake resistors
traction motors
car numbering
last 2 numbers are the set
then 0,1,2,3 have 4 a sides
7,8,9 have 3 a sides
the number is at 1 end
pantograph at 1 end
in a DT- B06 and B07 face 2 end
roof mounted equipment
all have saloon HVACs and air exhausts
TC has a cab HVAC
panto motor cars have pantos
dt is just HVAC and air exhaust
back up screen
can take the SDU if the HMI freezes and HMI will go to SDU space
IC under the coupler cover
L to R
uncouple
Towing unit
BP
MR
horn
dmp underframe
BCM to HV box to VVVF cabinet to brake resistors
also on b side have an auxiliary compressor
what’s in the VVVF cabinet
two traction inverters and a TCU
motor panto cars have the traction interver for powering (VVVF) and the trailer cars have the auxiliary inverters (APS units) for BATH
battery box
if you lose one the others will do it for 2 hours
in emergency conditions:
saloon lighting 50% after 10 minutes
HVAC fresh air fan will
operate for 2 hours
doors remain normal
