Why is the Philipines so vulnerable?
Sits across a convergent boundary (philippine seas plate and pacific plate
east cost faces tsunami prone sea
lies along Asias major typhoon belt ( 6-7 typhoons making landfall annually)
Tropical monsoon climate
22 active volcanoes with 30% of the pop within 30km of one
frequent landslides due to steep topography, heavy rain and high levels of deforestation
Which Philippine island is most at risk and why

Many buildings are on or around steep slopes and the land can be made unstable by coastal erosion or extreme weather
Earthquakes in the Pacific can cause tsunamis
Droughts caused by anticyclones or La Niiña events. Wildfires can be caused by these droughts as the vegetation is dried out
How vulnerable is California

20% of residents live below the poverty line. Over 70% of residents live within 50km of the fault line.
There would be huge economic losses during a natural disaster due to calis large economy
