what is the literal meaning hasad
- hasada: wishing for a blessing to be removed from the envied(al- mahsud), and transferred to the envier(al- hasid)
what is technical meaning of hasad
- a state of mind in which a man feels dissatisfied knowing another obtains any good, and he wants that good taken away from the person even though he, himself will not obtain any advantage from its removal
state and explain the 2 element of hasad
a. unhappy with someone’s achievement
- first stage of hasad
- al- hiqd (hatred) first cause of hasad
- envier will hate whatever goodness from Allah
- envier will hate whoever better than him
b. wishing for the removal of the achievement
- will use any means to achieve his goal regardless lawful or unlawful means
- feel satisfied when his objective is achieved
explain the prohibition of hasad
- hasad means desiring the removal of someone’s goodness given by Allah whether it is a religious blessing or worldly blessing
- hasad is prohibited in all circumstance due to its destructive outcome and disbelief (kufr) in the justice of Allah to his creatures
- all goodness originates from Allah. Thus, we must accept whatever bestowed by Him on his creature
explain permissible hasad
- known as ghibtah (emulation)
-one’s feeling of persistence of good to the envied by the desire to obtain a similar good himself - the envier does not wish to removed away from the envied, but bestowed on him as well
- commendable in some cases as it is someone effort towards further progress and advancement in life
explain based on hadith why hasad is unlawful in islam except in 2 situation
based on these 2 situation, envy is directed towards virtuous qualities and action. the envied using his blessing and talent in a way that benefits other people and pleases Allah
a. the enviable traits of a wealthy and charitable person
- envy towards rich man who uses his wealth for charitable purposes
- permissible because he admires the charitable action
- emphasizes on the good action and his obedience to Allah, not on his wealth alone
b. the enviable traits of a wise and just scholar
- envy towards wisdom and knowledgeable person who used it to judge with justice and teach others beneficial knowledge
- permissible because he admires and acknowledge the person’s beneficial contribution to society
state 4 protection against hasad
- seeking Allah’s protection from the evil of hasad
- fearing Allah by fulfilling His commands and avoiding His prohibition
- having patience against an enemy
- relying on Allah

- taqwa acts as a guiding principle to lead a life of piety, righteousness, and ethical conduct
- taqwa reminds us to be mindful of Allah presence
- follow his commands and refrain from what is forbidden in religion
explain seeking Allah’s protection from the evil of hasad
- islam advises muslim to seek refuge in Allah from the negative effects of hasad
- if not control, will lead to harmful actions towards others and also harm his own well- being and spiritually
- purify our hearts and mind from negative emotion and be content with the blessings and provisions bestowed by Allah
- replace the envious feeling with gratitude and make du’a for blessings and goodness for all
explain having patience against an enemy
- it is important to be patience against enemy
- it include endurance, forbearance and steadfastness
- muslim’s are advised not to respond in kind but encourage to exercise self- restraint and avoid escalating conflicts
explain relying on Allah
- the strongest defense because the opponent has no chance, against Allah’s protection
- Allah designates Himself as the protector
- if the believer place their trust in Allah, Allah will protect him and provide a way out
