What is haemostasis?
Keep circulating blood inside the vascular system, maintaining fluidity of the blood and stopping the bleeding following damage to blood vessels.
What to do if a woman has multiple antibodies in her blood and needs a transfusion?
Rare blood donors may be called up to donate blood.
or frozen blood may be required from the national frozen blood bank in Liverpool.
What is a direct antiglobulin test
a test undertaken if the mother has multiple antibodies produced: blood is obtained from the cord vein into a pink eta bottle. This must be labelled correctly with babys details. Complete form and print. Send to the lab and await results. If the results are positive the baby may require serum bilirubin/FBC via NICU and treatment such as phototherapy (proohylactically) if DAT is positive.
When would a FBC be taken as post delivery to assess whether a trasnfusion is necessary?
If EBL >500mls or LSCS or symptomatic
(symptoms-increased resps, tachycardic, SOB, faint, dizzy)
If Hb <70g/dl or symptomatic +++
<80g/dl if cardiac problems
