Haemophilia A
90% cases
Deficiency in Factor 8
X-linked.
Normal bleed time and platelet count, prolonged APTT
Rx: avoid NSAIDs, IM injections, desmopressin and recombinant factor 8.
Haemophilia B
Christmas disease
Deficiency in Factor 9
Acquired haemophilia
Caused by suddenly appearing autoantibodies that interfere with factors
Other coagulation disorders
Liver failure
Vit K deficiency
Rare bleeding disorders (deficiency in other 13 factors)
VWD - definition, genetic, presentation, rx
Most common inherited cause of haemophilia
Mostly AD deficiency in VWF
Presents with abnormal bleeding, FHx is relevant
Rx: not required day-to-day, but in major bleeding or trauma or in preparation for operations - desmopressin, VWF, F8
