“Actions are according to intentions” (Bukhari, Muslim)

1. To gain the pleasure of Allah
2. Seeking knowledge is fardh
3. We should understand that Allah has intended goodness for us and that’s why we are on the right path
4. To attain paradise - Allah opens the path of Jannah for those who seek knowledge

Q
  1. Sincerity
A

“Verily, Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but rather He looks at your hearts and actions.” (Muslim)

We should never mock anybody as we do not know what status they hold in the eyes of Allah. We also do not have the right to mock anyone.

Luqman AS was taunted for his appearance and his response was “ Are you insulting the creation or the creator?”

Mocking someone can take them out of the fold of Islam as differences in appearances & languages are a sign of Allah.

Mankind was created into tribes + nations to recognise each other.

The most honoured of us in the sight of Allah is the most righteous.
We should aim for piety, righteousness and Taqwa. We are not superior to anyone unless we exceed them in piety.

What makes a pious person?

They don’t: backbite, swear, eat haram, dress immodestly or urinate standing.
They do not omit their Fardh salah

Muttaqi = the most honourable to Allah (a pious person)

  1. they are a barrier from the haram
  2. they stay away from the haram or makeup tahrimi, e.g. they do not omit fardh, sunnah or wajib.

Q
  1. Purity
A

“Purity is half of faith” (Muslim)

Purity + cleanliness is a noble act of the prophet SAW

Islam emphasises personal hygiene + cleanliness to such an extent that a revelation came to SAW:

“And keep your clothing clean + stay away from filth” (74: 4-5)

As muslims we should appear outwardly clean

Najasat hakiki = impurity which can be seen, blood, stool, urine.
Najasat hukmi = unseen impurity, janabah.

2 types of Hadath:
Hadath-e-asghar =. wushu
Hadath-e-akbar = ghastly after janabah, e.g. wet dream, sexual interaction, finishing period.

4 fardh ghusl’s for women + 2 for men:
1. Menstrual cycle
2. Post natal bleeding
3. Wet dream
3. Sexual relations

Note:
Bathing Fridays = sunnah
Be clean + keep environment clean

A

“Do not get angry”

Bukhari

4 types of angry people

2. comes late, goes late
3. comes quick, goes late
4 comes late, goes quick

1+2 = not to be praised or condemned
3 = Worst kind
4 = best kind

  • Anger is from shaytan
  • Don’t get angry for the wrong/personal reasons
-Fighting for Allah isa sincere cause + anger in this case is permissible

“Anger takes the person to the problem, pride keeps them there”

  • Allah praises those who control their anger and we should forgive, forget and move on
  • We should think if Allah was angry with me, how quickly would I want to be forgiven?

What to do when angry:
1. As advised by SAW recite:
أَعُوْذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّـيْطٰنِ الرَّجِيْمِ
“I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan”

  1. Remove yourself from the situation
  2. If you’re standing, sit down

“Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt”

Tirmidhi

~ Can be regarding food, clothing, practiced or statements
- We should be wary and if on doubt we should stop or refrain from the act and the same applies to if something is not good for us, we should stop it or reduce the action

“Truthfulness is. source of contentment and falsehood is a source of doubt” Tirmidhi

It is only permissible to lie to save our lives

Life becomes easy when we avoid and stop anything that causes doubt

  1. Beauty of Islam
A

“Amongst the beauty of one’s Islam is that he leaves that which does not concern him.” (Tirmidhi)

This is Hadith among the 4 Hadiths which Abu Dawud considers is foundation

  1. Hadith 1 = intentions
  2. Hadith 6 = beauty of Islam
  3. Hadith 11: perfect muslim
    4 Avoiding harm

We as Muslims should mind our own business and be more concerned with our own shortcomings rather than the flaws of others.

We should keep ourselves to ourselves, avoid nosiness, and avoid interfering in the matter of others.

“Don’t call anybody nicknames”

We should abandon that which in not beneficial and focus on Allahs commands

Imam Shafi states:
“Time is like a sword, if you do not cut it, then it shall cut you”

and this is why we should remember this statement

“For you is what you have done and for them is what they have done”

Q
  1. Two great blessings
A

“There are two blessings which majority of people are unaware of; health and free time.” (Bukhari)

Health + free time are two thingsbwhich are often neglected and SAW said “take care of 5 things before 5 others” which include:
1. Youth before old age
2. Prosperity before Poverty
3. Health before illness
4. Free time before becoming occupied
5. Life before death

It has been said “O son’s of Adam, you are just made of a few days”

We should consider this and utilise our tine wisely, we should do lots of Istighfar and Zikr. Carry out righteous deeds when young and healthy.

We should ponder on what we are doing that is pleasing Allah and if it is benefitting our Akhirah.

We should make the most of Salah

  1. Salah in congregation
  2. Salah wherever we are
  3. Being punctual in salah

  1. Cheerful Face
A

“Do not consider anything insignificant from the good deeds even if it be meeting your brother with a cheerful face.” (Muslim)

There are so many acts of ibadah in Islam, one being as SAW said:
“Protect yourself against the fire of hell even by giving away half a piece of date in charity” (Bukhari, Muslim)

~ We should aim to make our our muslim ummah happy and cheerful as it is an act of ibadah

~ We should never underestimate the value of a good deed
~ We should smile at each other, smile often + smile contagiously - even at non muslims
~ We should read the du’a for when we see another Muslim happy (du’a 28)
~ We should show good character + people will flock to the deen
~ We should smile at non-muslims but not have love for them
~ Mawadah = true love should be reserved for the pious, god-fearing, god-conscious

SAW was in as constant state of Fiqra for the Muslim Ummah but he always smiled.

  1. Directing Someone Towards Good
A

“For him who directs towards good is the same reward as the doer of the good” (Muslim)

We should bring company with us to spiritual gatherings, that way we get double the rewards for guiding someone to the right path

We can direct to good via speech, teaching, action or writing

A person who engages and influences bad deeds will gain a portion of the sin of those influenced + vice versa for goodness

SAW will get a share of our good deeds as he is our teacher

SAW advised us to stay away from those who don’t pray

Conveying the message of the deen is sadaqah

When you do good you will get the full reward + whoever taught us that will also get a share of the reward.

Q
  1. Islam is sincerity
A

The religion (Islam) is sincerity

Muslim

Explanation:
This hadith underscores the importance of sincerity as the foundation of Islam. The term nasiha can be translated as sincerity, advice, or goodwill, depending on the context.

  • We should be sincere + honest in all aspects of life
  • We should worship Allah with full sincerity
  • We should follow SAW’s Sunnah with full sincerity
  • The duty of Nasiha (advice) is fulfilled by performing everything in the light of the holy Quran + the sunnah
  • Jawamiul-kalim = short sentences with comprehensive meanings - miracles of the SAW
  • Ikhlaas = doing something with sincerity for the sake of Allah, e.g. doing zikr in public slowly + fast in private when we should always be doing it with full conviction both ways.
  • We must be strong + sincere
  • Allahs curse in upon those who look + are looked at + those who expose their sattar - we. isn’t expose ourselves immodestly like the days of ignorance

Jareer Ibn Abdullah Al Bajali RA
A man went to a marketplace + bought a horse for 400 dirhams. When RA found out he asked to return it to the seller, he offered more + more leaving him confused as he kept going higher. The reasoning was that RA knew the horse was worth more so he made sure the seller received his due amount.

Zubair Ibn Awwam RA

He was so trustworthy that there local community would want him to save their money on their behalf but he would take it as a loan so he would have to give it back no matter the circumstance.

If he had decided to save it for the people he would not be responsible if anything out of his control happened to it - he had favoured the people.

A

“One will not become a perfect Muslim until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself.”

Bukhari: Muslim

  • We should wish for others what we want for ourselves, whether its goodness in this life or the hereafter.
  • Whatever good we want for ourselves we should wish for the ummah too

Q
  1. Manners
A

“The most perfect Muslim in the matter of iman is the one with the best manners.”

Abu Dawood: Tirmidhi

Iman = the foundation of good manners. The stronger a persons faith, the better his akhlaq will become

Good manners = humbleness, kindness, affection, sincerity, generosity

Nabi SAW said: “one who does not have mercy on our young nor shows respect to our elders is not one of us” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

Luqman AS has a whole chapter dedicated to him
He was granted wisdom for which he was grateful for and upon being asked where he learnt his manners, he said “from those who lack it”
- When he saw someone with bad manners he stayed away from them as he did not want others to this badly of him by association
- When he was asked to bring back the best + worst parts of a sacrificed sheep, on both occasions be brought back the tongue + the heart; teaching us that the value in something is based on how it is used.

How can our akhlaq be good, how do we interact with others?

We should display good character, behaviour + morals

Show the young = mercy, love + kindness
Show the elderly respect

Support + love each other for good + for the sake of Allah

  1. Neighbours
A

“That person will not enter Paradise whose neighbours are not safe from his mischief.”

(Sahih Muslim: 46)

Allah stated in the holy Quran
“show kindness to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy + the neighbours” (4:36)

Even if our neighbours are non-muslim =, we should show the kindness of Islam and draw them to the deep

A special effort should even be made in caring for the neighbour

Rights of neighbour:
1. When visiting them whilst sick - 70,000 angels pray for you till the next morning/evening if you visit

  1. Attend any muslims funeral + support the family
  2. Help the neighbour with a loan, if able
  3. Feed the neighbour, never let them go hungry
  4. Give him clothes if he has none
  5. Congratulate them on happy occasions
  6. Comfort him in times of difficulty + hardship. Du’a for them
  7. Do not spread the faults of your neighbours
  8. Do not disturb their peace - never
  9. Do not harm the neighbour

Q
  1. Relationship
A

“One who breaks relationships will not enter Paradise.”

(Sahih Bukhari: 5984, Sahih Muslim: 2556)

We should never break relations with siblings + family

We should treat our blood relatives cautiously + affectionately

Assisting them financially will double a person’s reward, 1. For charity, 2. Fulfilling rights of a relative (showing kindness)

We are only given 72 hrs to be angry with a relative + after that we should reconcile - ask for forgiveness + convey salam - if salam is returned both will be rewarded

We should have a habit of asking for forgiveness and before we sleep we should pray to Allah that we have a clean heart with no grudges, malice, jealousy, hatred towards anyone

A

“A person will be with whom he loves.”

(Sahih Bukhari: 6170, Sahih Muslim: 2640)

We should be wary of who’s lifestyle we love, SAW or of the kuffar?

  • If we love the haram + the non-muslims, we will be with them on Yawm Al Qiyamah
  • We must follow the footsteps and sunnah of SAW

“A person adapts the way of his friend, so be careful of who you befriend” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)
- Are our friends good of run, do they pray?
- Solitude is better than bad friends
- Reflect on ours friends, are they good for our akhirah?
- We will become like those who we surround ourselves with

  • Love Allah and SAW
  • We don’t know who can interceded for us on the day of judgement
  • Any good will be a means of salvation

Q
  1. The world is a prison for a believer
A

“The world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever.” (Muslim)

A person who can not control is naps + follows his desires relentlessly is a prisoner whose freedom is restricted

What we do for Allah benefits us, as the next life is eternal, everlasting bliss + enjoyment

This Hadith can be used to compare the afterlife to this life

A simple dip in Jannah for a split second will make us forget our worldly suffering - so endure + have sabr

“Order your children to perform their salah from the age of 7 + discipline if they don’t by age 10

  • The suffering of Jahannam will make the suffering of this life feel like a reward/paradise

When a Jew asked the SAW’s grandson about this Hadith, he asked what it meant as he was suffering and Nabi SAWs grandson thriving, his response:
“Even if I am rewarded, the reward of Hannah is so hefty, it makes my current rewards feel like less. Whereas the suffering from Jahannam will make your current suffering in this life feel like Jannah”

Face the reality before you face the akhirah

Life is to worship Allah + please him. Not for entertainment.

This life is short so we nee dot make it count

When the angel of death will arrive a believer will welcome death whereas the disbeliever will want to remain in this life

DO GOOD DEEDS. PERFROM SALAH. WORSHIP ALLAH. DO SINCERE TAWBAH.

17
Q
  1. Character
A

“The holy Prophet was the best of people in manners.” (Bukhãri, Muslim)

There are 4 witnesses for all our actions -
1. Kiraman Katibeen
2. The earth
3. Our body parts - our hands + feet will testify
4. Our book of records - no small or big deed will be left behind

Allah is always watching. What kind of manners is Allah seeing us have? Allah never turns his face from anyone

Allah gives testimony that SAW is of excellent character

Sayyiduna Anas - served SAW for 10 years and passed when Anas was 20

There is nothing heavier than good manners on the scale

We will enter Jannah with the fear of Allah + good manners. (Tirmidhi)

SAW always grieved for the ummah but when meeting others he always greeted with a cheerful face

Good manners can become equal to the tone who fasts all day + prays salah all night

The most believe to SAW will be those of good manners. He promises the highest position for those who have the best character

Be careful of words as they become actions which become habits which become destiny

We should avoid: indecent talk, bad/foul language + backbiting

18
Q
  1. Modesty
A

“Modesty is a branch of faith.”
(Bukhari, Muslim)

Haya is a vital importance that we keep in mind. In today’s day + age there is no shyness left. Without shyness you do what you like. If a person has hay, they will always have self-awareness.

4 types of Haya

  1. Haya Shari-ae - Sharia law tells us to be modest
  2. Haya-e-aqlee =. According to logic + rationality, akal = mind/intelligence
  3. Haya-e-urfi = according to the environment. This person does its due to people + surrounding but they don’t do it for sharia. This is wrong + not according to Islam
  4. Haya-e-tharbee = natural shyness, this is good to have. E.g. shyness in the presence of men.
19
Q
  1. Kindness
A

“Indeed Alläh is Kind and He likes kindness in all matters.” (Bukhãri, Muslim)

We should always adopt this quality + we should always view Allah as kind

We should be gentle, soft + calm to avoid the fire of hell

Softness alrways brings beauty. It brings beauty in whatever it is, a person or a thing.

If a person is hard-hearted + harsh, the people will disperse from you

SAW had a kind + gentle attitude + the sahabas drew to him

Allah is kind + we will receive Allahs rewards + favours by being kind. Make things easy for people, don’t make it more difficult. Always give glad tidings.

Make alliances/friendships/compromise. Allah SWT wants goodness for us - we will grow closer to Allah.

Kindness does not mean weakness + laziness, etc. We need a balance for everything

20
Q
  1. The powerful person
A

“The powerful one is not he who overpowers somebody, but the powerful one is he who restrains himself when angry.”
(Bukhãri, Muslim)

“and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of goods” (3:134)

  • People are very quick to + to respond to in anger
  • Anger + pride often go hand in hand
  • Unless it’s for the sake of Allah, nothing should make you angry

When does Man become complete?

  1. Loving for the sake of Allah = selflessly + not expecting reward
  2. Hate for the sake of Allah = when one does not obey Allah, e.g. does not pray

When Aisha RA mocked Safiyyah RA for shortness, SAW got angry for the sake of Allah. Speak out when one is violating Allahs order.

  1. Give for the sake of Allah, e.g. sadaqah, zakat
  2. Withdraw for the sake of Allah
e.g. we should not be giving money to those that are able to earn their own money - furthermore we don’t know what haram they be doing with the money

Encourage those around you. Control anger.

Prophet SAWs story with the scorching hot water, he got angry, controlled his anger, forgave, + free the one who spilt the water on him

Ali RA - when a man sat on him, he turned away which shocked the enemy. He said if he got angry in this instance it would not be for the sake of Allah and for his own personal reasons. In turn the enemy declared the shahadah.

21
Q
  1. Responsibility
A

“Verily each of you is a shepherd, and each of you will be questioned regarding his herd.”

(Bukhari, Muslim)

SAW commanded that those who’re entrusted with the affairs of others should be extra careful in carrying out their responsibilities

  • Leader of the people is responsible = will be questioned
  • A man regarding the welfare of his household
  • A woman regarding safeguarding the sanctity of her husbands home

We are responsible for our body, how we care for it + how we use it. The heart, eyes + ears will even be questioned.

  • Scholars regarding whether they taught well
  • The money that is trusted to us, if we are trusted for anything we will be responsible for it
  • We are responsible for our actions, our behaviours
  • Our body is a trust from Allah, it was given sinless, we should also return it in this state.
  • Each penny we spend will be accounted for, how did we spend our wealth?
  • We should question whether w really need something before buying
  • We should always be cautious that we will be questioned by Allah
22
Q
  1. Signs of a hypocrite
A

“The signs of a hypocrite are three; when he speaks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, when he is trusted he betrays the trust.” (Bukhäri, Muslim)

Nifaq - 2 types:
1. Nifaq Itiqadi (related to belief) - showing something different to what one actually believes, e.g. those who lie about being believers, they are only deceiving themselves - out of the fold of Islam
This is the worst type, they will be in the lowest levels of Jahannam

  1. Nifaq Amali (related to actions only) - lesser degree of hypocrisy but it should be avoided as it will lead to the other. When he speaks he lies, he says one things, does another. Hypocrite in action but not belief

We should always speak the truth even if it is detrimental to us. When one lies habitually, people will not believe him when he speaks the truth.

Make promises only when you know you can fulfil it - otherwise you will become a hypocrite

If you are unable to fulfil it + had the sincere intention to then you will not be sinful

Allah SWT orders us:

“Keep your promises, indeed regarding the promises you will be asked” (17:34)

23
Q
  1. Good word
A

“A good word is charity”
(Bukhari, Muslim)

“Saying what is good is better than observing silence and to observe silence is better than saying what is bad” (Mustadrak)
- Shaytan beautifies what is bad

We should be cautious that we are not hurting anyones feelings when speaking

Our daily conversations can amount as a sadaqah on the day of judgement - Indeed Allah does not destroy the good deed of good people

Good words can include asking about ones health, how they are.

Good words should be encouraged

24
Q
  1. Adab of drinking water
A

“The holy Prophet SAW prohibited breathing inside the utensil (while drinking water.”
(Bukhari, Muslim)

Etiquettes of drinking water:
1. Drink with right hand
2. Drink in 3 breaths/sips
3. Remove the cup from your mouth between each sip
4. Drink & eat whilst sitting (exception with zamzam)
5. Start with bismillah, end with Alhamdulillah

“Praise be to Allah who has not made this water salty from our sins”

If a vessel was used to do wudhu and there is water left over in that vessel then it is permissible to drink that

Or

If one is travelling and there is no place for one to sit then it is permissible to stand

25
Q
  1. White clothes
A

“Wear white clothes for they are the best of all your clothes” Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi

It is permissible to wear different coloured clothing however according to the sunnah it is preferred that men wear white

SAW said “wear white clothes because they are the purest + cleanest + shroud your dead in white cloth” (Nasai)

Women should wear modest clothing - avoid wearing designer and following fashion trends

Plain clothing and simple clothing is best - Allah will be pleased

26
Q
  1. Wearing clothes below the ankle
A

“The part of the clothing which is below the ankles will be in the fire of Hell” (Bukhari)

Men should show their ankles and women should cover

Allah will not look at nor purify those who:
- lower their clothes below their ankle
- boasts about his favours
- sells goods with false oaths

Women are given 5 pieces if shroud as Allah wants the women to go to Him modestly
