How can we beautify ourselves with the sunnah of the prophet saw?
- Preserve wudhu
- Keep our bodies and appearance clean
- Remove hair
How must we purify ourselves outwardly?
- Remove hair
- Cut nails
- Maintain cleanliness of clothes
- Have an element of plainness
- Don’t be excessive, flashy or expensive
Once you start to disconnect from the desire of wanting these things, the love for seeking Allahs pleasure becomes more beloved to us.
How must we purify ourselves inwardly?
- Stop rage, swearing, jealousy, belittlement, envy, this is
despised by Allah.
Destroys the soundness of our heart. - Self-amazement, self-obsession = oblivious to your faults.
- Pride = A) Rejecting something that has truth to it. B) Holding someone in contempt, looking down on someone.
How do we eliminate the traits that do not make us inwardly pure?
Knowledge is light. sins
create darkness.
- Istighfar, have a repetition of it e.g. durood
- Follow a sin with goodness, shaytaan will try to make you lose hope. The sin will be wiped out.
- Have an element of focus - manifest, calmness, humility
and tranquility.
What are the 4 conditions of dressing?
- Not tight
- Not see through
- It doesn’t imitate another religion
- It shouldn’t represent the opposite gender
A student of knowledge should set aside entertainment, useless talk, immaturity, gossip / backbiting, excessive joking and sarcasm.
Manage your time wisely.
What are things that are in our control?
- Words
- Nafs - willpower, innate animal instincts. Recognise your
weaknesses, faults. - Effort = Purifying the heart to
Listen + read Quraan, Zikr, pray, give
Charity, hijab, direct + indirect worship
What is Zikr and what are the benefits of it?
Zikr = the remembrance of Allah
- Cleanses your heart - anything that is wrong will aftect your heart e.g. bad friends, sins, music.
- Attracts Allahs blessing
- The heart has a ‘heart’ that is scared to come out. Through zikr, the spiritual side of the ‘heart’ will come out.
- Consistent zikr increases memory and can sharpen your mind.
- Each time we do zikr, a tree will be planted in Jannah.
The highest form of zikr is silent zikr. It creates a connection between you and Allah.
How can we free our heart?
- Time management
- Don’t procrastinate
- Desires/shift habits/emotions
Free the heart from knowledge + obstacles.
Inwardly = free the heart.
Outwardly = remove obstacles.
“getting what you want depends on cutting off habits + attachments to anything else.”
What are the obstacles between a person and Allah?
- Sin
- Shirk
- Innovation
To overcome:
Grasp Tawneed + sunnah of the prophet to overcome shirk.
One good deed at a time + repentance overcomes sin.
“None of you will truly believe until his desires follows that which I have brought. “
- Allah sent the Quran + Sunnah
Define ilm
Knowledge with a specific purpose which is to do with closeness to Allah SWT.
It brings clarity in singling out the worship of Allah - the light of Allah
Light enters your heart (it has to be sound and receptive) which grants you ilm - allowing you to gain knowledge about Allah
How does ilm transform the heart?
It does this by transforming your relationship with Allah and it allows us to rectify our intentions for the pleasure of Allah
How should one purify their intention?
- Intention - “I’m doing this for the sake of Allah”
- Will
- Motivation and desire
- Leads to your actions
- Achieve your goal
What can we do to be closer to Allah?
- Gain knowledge
- Make du’a/self-reflection
- Adapt mindset: “for the pleasure of Allah”
- Practice submission
- Read Quran
- Istighfar
Tell me about Al-Wadud
- Al-wadud = the most loving
- It cannot be compared to any form of worldly or parental love.
- Al-Wadud’s love is on another level - our mind cannot comprehend this
The perfect salah means 100% reward. What does the perfect salah consist of?
- Full concentration
- Your heart feels every word you are saying
- We have tajweed whilst reading
- We understand what we’re reading/doing
- We understand translation/meaning
What should be done when a person dies?
- Straighten the limbs whilst the body is warm
- Close their eyes
- Tie their chin up with thread to hold their mouth closed
- Head should be tilted towards the ka’bah
- Remove any jewellery from a woman
- Contact lenses can remain
- Recite the kalimah
- Surah Ya’sin, Surah Raad
Conditions of Hajj
- You are Muslim
- You are baaligh
- You are sane
- You are healthy enough o go or have someone to go with you. Women need a mahram
- You have enough money saved
If a person is struggling with any of these then Hajj is not fardh upon them.
If you can’t do it in your lifetime, then write it in your will that you want someone to do it with your inheritance.
If women have gold, sell + use the value to contribute to the money for Hajj.
It one is too ill but has the means to pay for hajj, he/she should pay for someone to do it.
Top tips for Qaza salah
- Pray long qaza salads with short salads e.g. Isha qaza with Fair Salah and vice versa
- Read a qaza salah with the fardh of each salah e.g. Fajr qaza with Fair Fardh
- Do not delay, make them up ASAP
- Keep the intention pure
- Give sadaqah regularly
- Take it slowly + keep trying
What is the purpose of Shariah?

How can we increase Imaan?
“The ‘true’ believers are only those whose hearts tremble at the remembrance of Allah, whose faith increases when His revelations are recited to them, and who put their trust in their Lord.” 08:02
This ayah tells us that just listening & reciting increases our imaan. It can have a profound impact which is why we must become the “people of the quran”
The quran is spiritual guidance + comfort, whether we can understand it or not.
Why is Sabr a test
- It causes the heart to be broken
- Being patient is the difficulty
- Sabr is bitter + difficult to bear
- The difficulty you face in sabr brings you closer to Allah - it makes you weak, humble, makes you cry & beg to Allah
- Crying when making du’a increases acceptance
Du’a when experiencing a calamity
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَاخْلُفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
“Verily we belong to Allah and verily unto Him shall we return. O Allah, grant me reward in my calamity and replace it with something better for me.”
What is the beauty of being tested?
“Under no circumstances will any difficulty reach us or afflict us except which Allah has decreed us for our benefit”
Allah loves those he tests and the ones he loves the most gets the most difficult of tests
Even a small affliction is an expiation of sins
Why is dying a gift for the mu’min?
Dying will mean we will be in Allah’s company and have Allah’s mercy
What are factors that can create change in beliefs, values & perception?
- People around us/surround yourself with good people
- Seeking knowledge
